FAQ
Why include a buffer?
It's easy to forget distant relatives or accept last-minute additions. 12% is a common buffer that prevents shortages; extras can be passed to coworkers or kept as gifts.
Chinese pastry or Western gift box?
Elders generally prefer Chinese pastries (mung bean cakes, dragon-phoenix); peers tend to prefer Western gift boxes. Mixing the two — Chinese for elders, Western for peers — is the most common approach.
Does the groom send cookies to his own relatives?
Traditionally no. Cookies are the bride's family's announcement ritual; the groom provides the cookies and the bride's family distributes them. The groom only prepares a small number (3–10 boxes) for the matchmaker, special elders, or VIP guests. Modern couples often split the role more flexibly.
Who pays?
Traditionally the groom's family (as part of the engagement gifts). Today most couples split the cost — agree on a budget and split before the engagement to avoid friction later.
When should I order?
1.5–2 months before the engagement; busy seasons (spring and autumn) need at least 2 months. Taste-test first, finalize the list, then order. Most shops allow ±5% adjustments, but flexibility shrinks closer to the date.
